The ever popular Yonge and Bloor corner is the newest intersection to get “scramble crossing” status in Toronto! Vehicle traffic comes to a complete stop in all directions to allow pedestrians to cross from every angle. The video above gives you a firsthand look of how it works.
While filming the video, I noticed many people where still uncomfortable actually crossing in a diagonal. I found it to be much more efficient for walking traffic, but not so smooth for drivers.
Though common in other major cities, this is only the second in Toronto. The other scramble intersection can be found at Yonge and Dundas. Word on the street is that plans are in the works to include the Bay and Bloor intersection as the next pedestrian friendly crossing!
