Longos

Longo’s, the family owned food chain, has been serving Toronto for over 50 years.  With 19 stores across the GTA, they’re about to open one more a block away from Yonge and Bloor.  Located at 100 Bloor St E. (Park Rd and Bloor) “The Market” will be the companies 3rd urban inspired grocery store.

The concept is to cater to the busy downtown condo dweller who is looking for a healthy alternative to “fast food living”.  If this store is anything like the other two (111 Elizabeth St and 181 Bay Street) food connoisseurs can expect specialty cheeses, select cuts of meat and all the other necessary ingredients for a 5 star dinner.  And let’s face it, not all of us have the time (or skill) to whip up a culinary delight…for that there’s the Longo’s Kitchen which will offer “ready-made” meal solutions!  Read the rest of this entry »

The ever popular Yonge and Bloor corner is the newest intersection to get “scramble crossing” status in Toronto! Vehicle traffic comes to a complete stop in all directions to allow pedestrians to cross from every angle. The video above gives you a firsthand look of how it works.

While filming the video, I noticed many people where still uncomfortable actually crossing in a diagonal. I found it to be much more efficient for walking traffic, but not so smooth for drivers.

Though common in other major cities, this is only the second in Toronto. The other scramble intersection can be found at Yonge and Dundas. Word on the street is that plans are in the works to include the Bay and Bloor intersection as the next pedestrian friendly crossing!

Have you ever wondered where the most expensive street in Canada might be? Here’s a hint: our website is named after part of the answer!

The Bloor-Yorkville area is home to some of the finest boutiques in all of Canada. It’s also recognized as one of the top 10 shopping destinations worldwide. International fashion labels such as Louis Vuitton, Prada and Hermes are a few of the chique shops you’ll find in this bustling area. And of course Canadian brands like Harry Rosen and Holt Renfrew are also available to those who appreciate the finer things in life!

It took more than brand names to help the Bloor St strip from following the downward trend that other high-end shopping destinations experienced. Canadian Banks and its stringent lending polices helped to lessen the effects of the world wide recession. Although we weren’t completely immune from it, we did come out much better than other countries. Bloor St remained unchanged from its 21st position on the list of most expensive locations world wide.

Last week Cushman & Wakefield  released a study that looked at the ”Global Downturns” effects on the most expensive streets world wide.  Business reporter Tony Wong did a great piece sumarizing it’s findings in The Toronto Star.  You can read it below:
